the interfaith rally in ayala

February 29, 2008...4 days after the commemoration of the 1st People Power Revolution in the country's history..people from all walks of life again gathered for a cause..Tagged as the interfaith rally, thousands of people rushed to the streets but not towards the historical EDSA Shrine but to the Central financial District of the Philippines. This movement is a reaction of the Filipino people to the ZTE-NBN Scandal that had implied the President and other high ranking officials of the government to the billion dollar kick-back for the approval of the controversial Broadband deal.
When I earlier learned of the interfaith rally a thought had propped into my head, "is it really needed?".
The 1986 EDSA Revolution had awed different countries around the globe because the Filipino people had proven to the whole world that no blood needs to be shed in order to retain democaracy in the country.
Another Philippine President was ousted in a similar movement which was tagged as EDSA dos.
EDSA3 (though government wont recognize it as such) was the bloodiest and the most cruel fate a Filipino has to endure in his quest for change.
Now...Ayala Avenue, situated in the financial capital of the country in Makati City is the favorite(?) venue of civic, military and religious groups who would like to voice their concerns and their disgust to the so called corrupt leadership of the land.
I myself have my own questions that needs to be answered...concerns that needs to be addressed...but by whom?
I myself dont consider GMA as the legitimate President of the land. I strongly believe that she, together with her allies had cheated and manipulated the results of the election. I believe that her administration is corrupt. And admittedly I never believe anything that she says because for me she is a liar and a thief and that she does not possess an ounce of credibility.
But then who among our leaders still has that moral ascendancy that we Filipinos want? Who among our political leaders have the credibility to satisfy each one of us? Who among our political leader has the strongwill to really fight corruption? Who among our political leaders can forget politics and be a true blooded public servant?
I support the shout for change. I uphold the march for truth. But most of all I raise my voice for all to listen and contemplate...
When will we ever learn? After this, will we be content? Or will we commit the same mistake and vote for the highest bidder?
Filipinos...make your country proud.
Speak up.
Learn.
But most of all be honest...to yourself.
